About

Founded in 1940, the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) is a member-driven organisation committed to the conservation of Malaysia's natural heritage. It operates independently, is nonpartisan, non-governmental, and non-profit.

MNS has branches in each Malaysian state, including one in Selangor known as the Malaysian Nature Society Selangor Branch, which was established in 1953 at the 6th MNS Annual General Meeting.

Everyone has a part to play in protecting Malaysia’s natural heritage. The Malaysian Nature Society Selangor Branch works together with various NGOs, local and state authorities, federal agencies, and indigenous groups to tackle environmental and conservation challenges.

The MNS Selangor Branch is managed by a Branch Committee that’s elected by our members - an Executive Committee (Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer) and Ordinary Committee Members and co-opted members which normally serve a term of two years.

In the branch, members with shared interests collaborate to establish Special Interest Groups (SIGs). The formation and dissolution of these groups are subject to approval by the Branch Committee, which holds final authority.

Both the Branch Committee and the SIG Committees are made up of volunteers. They’re the ones who plan and organise field trips and activities for members living in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Cyberjaya, and Putrajaya.

Established: 7 August 2024

The world as we know it wouldn't exist without fungi. Fungi have been around for more than a billion years - working as the natural world's architects and alchemists. They are critical links between the health, stability, and abundance of the soil, plants, and freshwater on which life depends. The third "F" to flora and fauna, funga, is often cast aside - a forgotten kingdom.

The mission of the MNS Selangor Branch Mycology Group is to promote the understanding, appreciation, documentation, ethics, and conservation of fungi in Malaysia. We aim to foster a collaborative community of enthusiasts and professionals dedicated to advancing mycological research, education, and conservation efforts. Through public outreach, educational programs, webinars, photography and cultivation workshops, guided mushroom forays, and scientific research, we strive to highlight the vital role fungi play in our ecosystems and to inspire a greater commitment to preserving Malaysia's natural biodiversity. The MNS Selangor Branch Mycology SIG is for anyone looking to learn more about fungal ecology and how to incorporate fungi into their life.
