Report: SACF Mycoblitz

Reported by Loon Yit Hong

This is an inaugural fungi foray event organized by Mycology SIG with the aim of creating awareness of the importance of fungi biodiversity at SACF and its overall ecosystems. SACF is a popular hiking spot with scenic trails full of untouched biodiversity. However, it is currently under deforestation threats with on-going housing project developments which therefore public awareness on its important biodiversity is urgently required. The total of registered joiners are 25 pax with high turnout rate of exceeding 90%. The proceeds collected is RM1,218.00 with minimal cost sponsored by SIG coordinators. There are many saprophytic and ectomycorrhizal fungi were found such as Praearthromyces corneri, Mycena sp. (bio-illuminances type), Termitomyces sp. and some unknown species which required DNA sequencing for further identification.
