Dr Lim Boo Liat (1926-2020)

The Malaysian Nature Society wishes to express our deep sorrow on the demise of conservationist and natural historian Dr. Lim Boo Liat. Dr. Lim was a towering Malaysian, generous with his knowledge, yet humble, kind and unassuming despite his many remarkable achievements.

Dr Lim Boo Liat was born on August 21, 1926. He was a pioneer in the field of zoology in Malaysia and in 2013, he was a Merdeka Award recipient for outstanding contribution to the conservation of Malaysia’s biological diversity through the study, understanding and control of vectorborne diseases and the relationship between diseases and the environment and advocating the protection of our natural heritage. He was instrumental in the revival of the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) in 1948 after its long hiatus during the Second World War. He also served as an adviser to MNS when he was an Honorary Member.

The conservation community has lost a very good friend and mentor today. We wish to extend our deepest condolences to Dr. Lim’s family. With deepest sympathy, from all of us at MNS.
